Listen Instead:
You started your business and you are ready to hop on social media to get the name out there! But then you end up overwhelmed by Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and all the other seemingly endless social media platforms. Where should your business start building its presence?
It can feel like you need to be on all of the platforms. The problem is that if you are just starting your business or running it by yourself, it will be much more difficult to keep up with it all! Start by picking one or two social media platforms and really begin establishing a presence and following there. Once you feel like you’re able to maintain those, then you can consider expanding your reach to some of the other platforms.
Knowing exactly which social media platforms to choose can be tricky. These are some things to consider to ensure that the platform you choose will fit into your life, your business, and is the best option for your audience.
Which social media platforms do you like using?
Which platform comes naturally to you? While the decision shouldn’t be solely based on yourself, it can be really helpful to see where you spend most of your time and where you have the most engaged following.
Keeping up with social media can be a challenge at times so making sure the platform you choose is the one that you genuinely enjoy can improve your consistency and the way you show up!
Where are your ideal clients hanging out?
Even if you have a killer presence on Instagram (or any other platform for that matter), if your ideal customer isn’t on Instagram, it’ll be a waste of your efforts and time.
Knowing where your people are hanging out is the key to seeing the results in your business! If you have a course is about setting up a business Instagram profile, but you’re only promoting it on Instagram…you won’t be likely to see much success.
I want you to enjoy the social media platform you choose to focus on, but it’s so important to do your research and make sure you’re not wasting your time on the wrong platform.
But how do you find out where your ideal client is hanging out?
Have you tried asking them? Utilize the connections you have. Ask current clients that fit your ideal client profile. Inquire in Facebook Groups and ask which platform they spend the most time on.
If you find that most answered that they spend the most time in Facebook groups, head to a few of those groups and do some research. Facebook groups are helpful because you can utilize the search feature! Search some of your ideal client’s pain points or questions. Take note of the people who are posting or commenting on these things.
Are these people your ideal clients? Find a few places that they enjoy hanging out. Now you can use that information to make sure you’re showing up in a way that will reach those people!
Don’t start on a bunch of platforms. If you spread your efforts too thin, you won’t be consistent. This can cause overwhelm and burn out. Just start with one or two, establish consistency, then add another after you master the first ones.
Don’t put too much pressure on yourself! There are people making six-figure incomes just from Instagram or FB Groups or even a Blog! Get creative and do what works for you. Go all in and make yourself a student of that platform.
The reward of building a solid audience to help your business will be so sweet!
